SHADES OF GREY - Freedom / Incarceration　（自由 ／ 監禁） 

個人の監禁は、彼／彼女自身の意志に従って行動しようとする個人の可能性の物理的／精神的な制限によって維持されているケースがほとんどである。逆の視点から見れば、個人が物理的／精神的な制限のまったくない生活を送るなら、それは個人が定義によって完全な自由を達成したことを意味するのだろうか？ 人類の歴史には上記のように、制限なき人生を生きた個人──自分自身とみずからの利益のためだけに生き死んだ人々の多くの実例がある。おそらく一つは、そのような人々がみずからのためだけに高い水準の自由 （彼らは共感・道義・連帯などの形をした制限を欠いているゆえ） を獲得しようとしたからかもしれない。他方では、彼らの自由はほかの人々の抑圧と搾取に直接結びつき、それはいかなる人道主義者にもその自由の形を軽蔑させる理由となった。

人類の文化は、絶対的な自由が人間共存の解決策であることを掲げるイデオロギー・宗教・マニフェスト・本・異なる政治または経済制度の実例にあふれている。これらの考えは人類の歴史のなかで試みられている。いくつかのものは成功し、その一方でほかのものは壊滅的な結果をもたらすこと （あるいは導きながら） に結びついたが、結局少なくともそれらのどれもが絶対的な自由と人間性を提供しないという結論に達することができる。他方では、自由とは相対語である。そしておそらく相対語の一つの問題は、用語の異なる定義が互いに矛盾するので、任意の文脈のなかで十分に用語の一つの定義を使用するのは難しいかもしれないということである。

一人がその対照を見ることによって自由を定義したいと思うような自由の定義「ら」の考えを獲得することは容易なのだろうか？ 自由と解放への道はいかなるマニフェストにも書かれていないのだろうか？ それはできるかぎり監禁している構造を取り除く問題なのだろうか？ あるいは、すべての個人が自由を均等に獲得することのできる政治制度──すべての個人がほかの個人の自由を妨げることなく、できるかぎり多くの自由を獲得することのできる制度を創造することが実際の解決策なのだろうか？

私たちが今日の政治／経済制度を注視するなら、私たちはどこに立つのか？ 個人の自由は他者の監禁に依っているのか？ 私たちは共存しているのか、競争しているのか？

このアルバムの歌詞はこうした問いに焦点をあてている。私たちはいかなる完璧な答えも持っていないが、私たちはそこに資本主義社会に対する代替手段が存在すると信じている。

私たちは代替手段のために闘い続ける。

" This is the first full lenght LP of Shades of Grey from Sweden, which follows there split LP with Massmord which if you havent heard yet, Stop reading this review and get yourself a copy then please come back and read this review and then go get this LP as it to is as perfect. Shade of grey kick off with a nice dark slow intro before seriously ripping up with their brand of hard hitting melodic Crustcore, this seems to be a theme that contiues throughout the record dulging into these slow bleak doomy sounding strums of a guitar slowly lining you up before knocking you down with a wall of brutal crustcore. It seems to be the done thing by many bands and it can get a bit repetitive but not if you are listening Shades of Grey, who set the bar that bit higher with this record.
Kick ass band and kick ass record!!! "

SHADES OF GREY - Freedom / Incarceration LP (ACM026)

" I have released the vinyl debut by Shades of Grey on my label Blindead Productions as a split LP with Massmord, so it should come as no surprise that I like this band. True, bands have been known to change style and loose whatever it was that made them interesting, but I’m happy to report that Shades of Grey have only developed their sound in a positive direction.

The first time I lowered the needle onto this piece of vinyl I honestly thought I had it at wrong speed and was just about to flip it to 45 rpm when I realized that it wasn’t wrong, it was just a damn dark opening. A darkness that is consistent throughout all the nine tracks. Shades of Grey aren’t only about hard and dark crustcore with good melodies though; they also know what’s needed to not just be another anonymous name within a somewhat watered down genre. Their songs are as straight up brutal as they are memorable and varying, with loads of infectious riffs and changes in tempo. Case in point being “Sorts the gods out” which is a killer track that’ll get you hooked immediately with its great catchy chorus, followed by the raging “In the eye of the storm” and heavy doom-laden “Reach for the sky (to tear it down)”.

Shades of Grey continue to stand out as a perfect example of what’s good with thundering and melodic crustcore and skilfully navigate themselves passed the pitfalls and repetitive patterns. It’s a great record that’s completed with cool artwork and a sixteen-page booklet. "

" Profane ExistenceからSplit作品もリリースしているスウェディッシュ･ハードコア･バンドの1stフルアルバム。スウェーデンでは激情メロディックなクラスティー･ハードコアの勢いはいまだに衰えないですが､このバンドもそのタイプ。そもそもWOLFPACKあたりがメロディック･クラストの原点と捉えるべき存在ですから､やはりこのテのサウンドはスウェディッシュ･ハードコア･シーンでは流行り廃り関係なく根付いているのでしょう。女性 x 2/男性 x 2の4人編成で､男女のツインVo.で切なくもブルータルに爆走するスタイルは､1stアルバムにして申し分ないレベルです!! このへんのスウェディッシュ激情クラストはデスメタル人脈とも絡んできたりするけど､このバンドも母国のデス/ブラックメタルの大ファンのようで､勇ましい刺青の女性ベースVo.はTシャツもベースに張ってるステッカーもNIFELHEIMです。初期TRAGEDYファンはもちろん､MARTYRDODやBOMBSTRIKEなどのデスメタル人脈スウェディッシュ･クラストなんかが好きな人にもオススメ!! Shades of Grey - Freedom / Incarceration LP は本当にすばらしい。自分のレーベルから出せたことが本当に光栄。

自由の反対は監禁ではない。平和の反対は戦争ではない。まさにひとつながりのものだ。これは「言葉の堕落」ということにもつながる。

この作品からは、他者を踏みつけて成り立つ資本主義に「反」を示すなら、そのことを注視しなければならないという想いをひしひしと感じる。

今後もこうした根源的な問いを忘れない作品をリリースし続けていきたい。

ACM006: PROTESTERA / GOTCHA - split 10"

Swedish and Japanese "super" anarcho punk bands. We are really really excited this project, because both bands are one of the best anarcho punk bands in the world, and it's very important that the anarchist resistance strategy of Protestera be translated into Japanese. By the way, for the world's punx who doesn't know Japanese GOTCHA : They are male/female vocaled experimental anarcho-punk band that used the drum-machine now from Fukuoka, and the activity is long in Japan. And they released three tapes (demo, split tape w/Control and "How long will we continute..." tape (same as split tape w/Control) and are participating in two compilations ("Crust Night 2001" comp CD that "Tribal War Asia Records" released, and "Nine-states Chain Strength" comp CD-R that "Koroshino Records" released) by present. Their music keep always changing, and now they play sounds like the "Massive Attack meets Crass meets Conflict"! The lyrics also are very inspirational.

本作は、demo CD、split LP/CD with Massmord に続くかれらのファースト・アルバムで、Nakkeskudd Plater (ノルウェー)、Contraszt! Records (ドイツ)、Sadness of Noise (アイルランド) の4レーベル共同リリース。リリースは来年予定。

そのバンドは、スウェーデン・ストックホルムの Shades of Grey。
